Evaluations

Accurate evaluation of student progress requires assessment tools. Residents are evaluated each block by the precepting attending, and are also assessed semi-annually by their continuity clinic attending. Evaluations are done through New Innovations, Inc., an electronic data system. Residents also evaluate the other residents on the team, the rotation and the attending.
360 Degree Evaluations
Patients and staff are selected to assess residents during several inpatient and outpatient rotations throughout the three year training period.
Clinical Exam Exercise (CEX)
Faculty members observe and provide feedback to residents as they perform history and physical exams at the Vauxhall Community Health Center and in the hospital.
Bioskills Training
Residents are evaluated with written and technical skill performance tools during various procedures.
Morchand Center
Located at The Mount Sinai Hospital, this center gives our PGY I residents an experience of structured patient encounters that are recorded and viewed by a faculty member. Each resident has six patients with a written history, time to ask questions and examine the patients, and time to document their findings. The resident receives feedback from the faculty member and scores from the patients.
Early Academic Year Review
Second and third year residents meet with the program director/associate program director in early to late July to establish goals for the academic year, discuss future plans, and plan electives and selectives.
Semiannual Evaluations
The program director/associate program director meets with residents two times per year to review individual resident goals and performance, discuss in-training exams and get feedback regarding the program.
