Neonatology

They come into the world weighing as little as four sticks of butter and are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Today, even the tiniest infants have a good chance at life thanks to advances in neonatal medicine that make it possible for these infants to survive and grow into healthy, normal children. All they need is some help from the team of the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) at Atlantic Health.

Atlantic Health features two NICUs, one at Morristown Memorial Hospital and the other at Overlook Hospital.  They are designed for the care of medically unstable or critically ill newborns that require constant nursing care, complicated surgical procedures, continual respiratory support, or other intensive interventions. Both NICUs feature the most technologically advanced equipment available today and a highly trained multidisciplinary staff. The same group of neonatologists covers both NICUs, and works hand-in-hand with a team of highly skilled perinatologists to help manage high-risk pregnancies and fetal problems prior to delivery.
